Radcom Analyzers Cover Enterprise and Carrier requirements. Ideally, this OSS is capable of reporting network wide information and automatically report on any site(s) that may be below performance compared to other sites or a pre configured threshold. These systems can be nationally deployed as a fixed PC or server based system to continually monitor your wired and wireless space.  Analyzers can be purchased as manufacturer purpose built appliances or unbundled as kits that include the software you will need and network interface cards. High performance analyzers cards or Gigamon appliances that can provide accurate synchronized packet time stamping to measure one-way-latency or simplify response time monitoring and filter and aggregate before passing packets to the tool. In the wireless area many radios include management features. For instance the Redline Communications point to point or point to multi-point systems include and RF Power analyzer used for setup. Trapeze Networks' RingMaster management software can be used for planning and once deployed can provide a current "broken glass" display of the RF energy. These systems are all extensible to give you some information with little configuration required.  For instance, WiFi Pilot can be bundled with MetaGeek, OmniPeek Peer Maps can be overlaid on a Trapeze RingMaster displays, drivers are available to run the AirPcap with other analyzer software other than Wireshark. Most AP's have a monitor mode and can feed an analyzer.  Freeware will only get you so far and should not be your only monitoring solution.  Prices have come down on these solutions and all are capable of giving and taking information via API’s or standard interchanges for information.
